School Site AcquisitionBy Tom J. SpencerCandidate for Governing Board Member; Santa Rita Union School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
It is imperative to identify and obtain school sites prior to the construction of new subdivisionsWith the bulk of the Salinas area's new growth taking place within our district's boundaries, it is essential to work with the city, county and developers to meet the needs of Santa Rita Schools before new construction begins. School sites must be selected in the planning stages of a development. Current developer fees are not enough to cover the district's needs for facilities. We must continue to work with developers to fulfill district requirements. The proposed subdivisions in our district will include approximately three thousand houses. We must have land provided for the school sites that will be necessary to educate the children from those homes. Developers have the ability to recover the cost of the sites, while the district does not. |
