- Addressing Highway 101 and Other Traffic Troubles
-
Congestion on Highway 101 in Marin County is a major concern. Novato residents who commute south in the morning as I do pay a hefty price. Twice Marin County voters have failed to get a two-thirds vote for a half-cent sales tax for transportation. I have asked the voters of Novato if they would vote for a new half cent sales tax.
- Leveling the Playing Field for Our Schools
-
As a Novato councilmember, I would support Novato schools in their negotiations with the State over updating funding formulas. The State funds schools according to an old formula that takes into account pre-Proposition 13 local tax rates and a court ruling ordering equal funding. The intent of the law is that all districts get the same basic funding per student. It's a simple concept. I support stripping away the arcane formulas and starting over.
- Bringing State Funding to Address Local Needs
-
I have the experience and the know-how to help Novato through the maze of State regulations to find available funding. I am the only candidate with that expertise. Novato needs to abandon its isolationism and accusatory message and begin a mature interaction with the State.
