Smart Voter Official Statement for Helene Schneider

Candidate for
City Council Member; City of Santa Barbara

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Occupation: Human Resources Director

Education and Occupations:

The City of Santa Barbara is experiencing budget cuts, an affordable housing crisis and increased traffic congestion. These pressing issues require decisive and innovative leadership. As a 30-something professional woman, I will add a new perspective to the City Council.

We deserve a City Council that listens and responds to our needs. Our local workforce needs additional affordable housing options. Businesses need assistance recruiting and retaining valuable employees. We must continue protecting our parks, creeks and beaches. Budget constraints cannot compromise public safety. Community service is important to me and I've worked to increase access to our elected leaders and provided input on public policy.

My professional career focuses on my employer's fiscal health while providing a positive workplace for employees. I've served as President of the Santa Barbara Human Resources Association and Santa Barbara Women's Political Committee, Commissioner of the City of Santa Barbara Housing Authority, and Human Resources Director for Planned Parenthood.

I will bring a rational, balanced and fair perspective to the City Council. Please join Jack O'Connell, Assemblymember Jackson, County Supervisors Schwartz, Rose and Marshall, Mayor Blum, Councilmembers Falcone and Horton and former Mayor Harriet Miller in supporting my candidacy. Vote for Helene Schneider on 11/04/2003.
