Text of speech to be aired on the City of Sunnyvale cable channel 18, KSUN and broadcast schedule

I first moved to Sunnyvale in 1976, that is over 27 years ago and my wife was born and raised in Sunnyvale, as were our three children. In 1978 we purchased our home in Sunnyvale, and we have seen many changes over the years to Sunnyvale. In the last few years the current council has lost its way. It should be "we the people" that tell our council members the direction we wish Sunnyvale to go. Our council should be actively pursuing "we the people" for our wishes and desires for our beloved Sunnyvale. I pledge not to seemingly listen to you and then go my own way.

Just a few months ago voters tried to get the council to place three initiates on this November's ballet that would have allowed the voters a say in the development of downtown Sunnyvale. The council rejected the voters and refused to allow the voters a voice. This is common for the council. During the last election cycle in 2001 the council rejected the voters a voice in the crematory issues.

I have always believed that a council member's job is to improve the lives of the citizens in their community. In my past management positions I have found that it is best to get input from my people before making a decisions. I have a wide background of knowledge and skills and I am very good at asking relevant questions so that we can find the solutions. In the next few months and years we have some hard decisions to make and I believe that we need everyone's input before we can find the best plan for Sunnyvale. I respectfully ask for your vote on Election Day, November 4, 2003 so I can be your voice on the council.

The candidate statement videotapes have been completed. At the request of and in consultation with the City Clerk, we have created a KSUN-18 broadcast schedule to run from Friday evening, August 22, through Sunday, November 2. This will end the broadcasts at the close of the weekend prior to Election Day.

Two videotapes have been created. Each uses the same statements, but the sequence of presentation has been reversed between the tapes in an effort to provide more equal exposure. These tapes are "Tape A" and "Tape B."

On Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, Tape A will air at midnight, 4 a.m., 8 a.m., noon, 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Tape B will air in the intervening blocks at 2 a.m., 6 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, we will follow the same tape rotations, but on odd hours. Tape A will air at 1 a.m., 5 a.m., 9 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 9 p.m.; Tape B will air at 3 a.m., 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m., 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

As with much of KSUN-18 programming, the tapes will be preempted by broadcasts (and rebroadcasts) of City Council and Planning Commission meetings. In addition, certain other programming may, from time to time, preempt the tapes. This would include Town Hall Meetings or other broadcasts as allowed by City policy.
