City Master PlanBy Dan E. AndersenCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Burlingame | |

Both the Northend and the Bayfront are being reviewed. Let's do what's right for Burlingame.North Burlingame/Rollins Road Specific Area Plan This plan covers two separate areas: the Northend of Burlingame, surrounding the BART station and Peninsula Hospital, and the Rollins Road area. Layover zoning is being proposed to accommodate mixed-use development, high-density housing, new office buildings and retail along El Camino Real. The Rollins Road area has been a steady source of revenue for the City, and changes to that area must be considered very carefully. Housing does not belong within that industrial area. Bayfront Specific Area Plan The Bayfront area is primarily zoned for hotels, restaurants and office buildings, and for light manufacturing. All sectors have been a steady source of tax revenue to the City. The proximity to the airport and the ease of freeway access make this area desirable to those types of developments. The planned airport expansion and the already high noise level in the area preclude it from being suitable for housing of any kink. Housing within this area would not be feasible because of added disproportional infrastructure costs to the City. It would also cost more to support than it would gain in revenue for the city. |
