1. How would you implement your top priority?
|
Answer from Priscilla Franklin:
The goal of our school district is to bring all students into academic improvement. We must replace remediation and treat our children as gifted and talented. We should build on their individual strenghts. The community must work with the school to make learning relevant. Our children must see the connection between what is taught and the real world. Students will achieve high academic scores when parents, community and schools work together.
Answer from Cynthia Lee-Richardson:
I am currently (and plan to continue) working within our strategic plan initiative in the development of a district-wide full day kindergarten program. This program will help provide more individualized education for our younger students. The program will provide our students with the enrichment and remedial support as needed. We are currently piloting a full day kindergarten program in one of our elementary schools.
2. How can the School Board work with local government and the community on use of school facilities for after school programs and recreations?
|
Answer from Cynthia Lee-Richardson:
In the initial stages of our strategic plan process, we held focus groups and conducted in-person interviews with government officials and business leaders in the community to better identify their expectations of the district; as well, build greater cohesiveness in providing quality education for our students. We currently offer after school and extracurricular activities in our schools We are continuing to seek input from our local government and businesses to better educate our students.
Answer from Priscilla Franklin:
The School Board should set the requirements by which school facilities may be available to the whole community. A broad use of school buildings encourages a greater sense of ownership and responsibility for the welfare of our whole school system. The Board is the connection to partner the schools with government and business.
