Having complete trust and good communicaion is important.
The biggest issue "trust" was first raised printed as an editorial in the "Suburban Life" on March 20, 2002. This article was written by the newspaper and was in response to the Camp Dennison gravel pit development attempt. The newspaper then wrote, in part, "They (Symmes trustees) need to put the trust back in trustee". This stems from the fact that our trustees requested help from the county to help with this development. (I might add that this developer sat and still sits on the Symmes Zoning Board.) They also did this before a proposed zoning change to the property that would require an eventual vote by them. In my mind the issues of trust have not been resolved and nothing done to reinstall "trust." Several issues have come to my attention that further shaters this trust.
Pertaining to communication. In the township newsletter I would put upcoming decisions being pondered by the trustees. I would put in updates on road construction, storm water solutions, and matters of concern to residents. I would increase the number of newsletters and ban the politicizing of this publication. In conjunction with this I would expand and update the township website regularly.
The opportunity to speak in meetings has been defined by the trustees, not as a right but as a privilege. This is about the only chance that a resident has of being heard. Article I of the constitution calls for freedom of speech. I feel that the people have the rights to speak and be heard. The privilege is not in speaking before the board but would be in being able to serve my community.
