This information is provided by the candidate |
Laura F. Priver is the candidate with the breadth of experience, temperment and dedication to be an exceptional judge.Over the last 19+ years as a Deputy District Attorney Laura Priver has had a number of assignments that have given her an unusually broad range of experience. Fundamentally, she has successfully tried numerous cases before both judge and jury. During her 3 years assigned to the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Division, Laura vigorously prosecuted some of the most difficult cases including child molestations, rapes and murder/rape. She was so successful, that she was chosen as the "grant funded" deputy prosecuting repeat sexual offenders. After only 7 years in the office, Laura became a supervisor. As a Deputy-in-Charge of 3 different juvenile offices, she consistently proved that she could manage staff, mediate disputes and train new attorneys. As a calendar deputy, Laura successfully managed an extremely heavy calendar. Laura was reponsible for all of the matters on her calendar up until the point the case was assigned for trial. In addition, to her calendar she tried several specially assigned murder and attempted murder cases. In Laura's current assignment, as the Criminal Grand Jury Legal Advisor, she is the individual who controls the proceedings, determines admissibility of evidence during the hearing, reads the jury instructions and answers the juror's questions. This is an extremely unique assignment. Very few Deputy District Attorney's are afforded this opportunity and it is the closest assignment to functioning like a neutral arbiter available in the District Attorney's Office. Through her success at the Criminal Grand Jury as well as a supervisor and calendar deputy, Laura has demonstrated she posseses the appropriate temperment to be a judge. She has established a reputation for fairness and honesty. She has shown she is able to mediate disputes, resolve cases, interact with members of the public and participate in a committee setting. She is firm but fair. Laura has consistently taken on additional work both inside and outside the District Attorney's Office. She was selected as the District Attorney's Office liaison to the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (ICAN) as well as the Multi-Agency Graffiti Intervention Committee (MAGIC) during different periods in her career. She is also a committed community volunteer. Laura has repeatedly volunteered her time and talents for a number of different Parent Teacher Association events at Marengo Elementary School in the South Pasadena School District. Additionally, she has participated as a guest speaker for Career Day at the South Pasadena Middle School. Overall, Laura is a dedicated public servant who is willing to go above and beyond to contribute to society. |
