What is the most significant challenge facing us today?By Edward J. "Ed" PeckhamCandidate for Superior Court Judge; County of San Diego; Office 24 | |

Raising a family in an urban community poses the most significant challenge today.I think that parents today have enormous challenges. I believe that raising a family in today's society takes a tremendous amount of knowledge, common sense and courage. Our kids are the future of this nation. We, as parents, need to protect, discipline, encourage and train our kids to be good citizens. We need to teach them tolerance. We as parents need to raise the bar on our expectations. If our kids know we accept mediocrity they will deliver mediocrity. If they know we expect excellence, they will deliver that too. Schools should not be left to raise our children. They should look to the home as the place where they learn their values. Schools should be where they get their knowledge. |
