Rights of Law-Abiding CitizensBy Thomas J. "Tom" WeissmillerCandidate for Member, Republican Party County Central Committee; County of San Mateo; Supervisorial District 2 | |

Too often the extra mile is given to protect the criminal. What about the rights of the law-abiding citizens?I am a law-abiding citizen. I have no criminal record. I pay my taxes. I do not have a history of mental conditions. I served in the armed forces. I was entrusted with 150 M16 rifles, 20 M60 machine guns, 40 .45cal pistols, and 4 .50cal machine guns when I was a Company Commander in the California Army National Guard in Redwood City. Do you suppose I could get a permit to carry a concealed weapon? I looked into the process. The San Mateo Police told me only persons that could show their life was in danger or they carried large cash or high valued possessions, such as someone in the jewelry business. I did not fit either of those categories and did not pursue the application. I have no interest or need to carry a concealed weapon now, but would like to have that option. Properly trained, law abiding, mentally stable citizens should have the right to personal protection by caring a legal firearm. |
