1. What can be done to ensure that California gets its fair share of federal resources?

Answer from LeiLani Dowell:

It is criminal that California, that has the fifth richest economy in the world, is a place of high unemployment, massive homelessness and poverty. Tax reform that has only benefited the rich must end. A statewide emergency should be declared because of the dramatic deteriotation in public schools. California ranks 48th in education. Money for war should be immediatly diverted for the rebuilding of schools, raises for teachers and a reduction in class sizes.

2. What are your foreign policy priorities for the United States?

Answer from LeiLani Dowell:

I call for the immediate end to the occupation of Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan and everywhere. It is the sovereign right of the people of these countries to determine their own future. The current foreign policy of the U.S. is based on imperial expansion shrouded in lies that are fed to the people of this country through the corporate media. We have to develop relationships with other countries based on mutual respect and fairness. I call for the immediate elimination of the all debts of poor countries to the U.S. corporations and banks.

3. What are your priorities for the federal budget?

Answer from LeiLani Dowell:

For the first time there is a $1.4 trillion budget coming out of Washington, with a deficit that will exceed a half a trillion dollars. If that money was put towards job programs, schools, affordable housing and health and human services it would go a long way towards eliminating poverty not just in California but in states around the country. This will never happen as long as there is a bloated military budget that throws millions at military contractors like Bechtel, Halliburton, Lockheed Martin and many other corporations on federal welfare.
