Candidate statement

I believe my personal experience will lend a useful perspective. As Director of Obstetric Anesthesia at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, I have had the privilege of being present at the births of many current Orinda students. In addition, I am a managing partner in our anesthesia group and have been very involved in running the business aspect of our practice. I attended Columbia College, the University of Southern California School of Medicine and completed my anesthesia residency at the University of California, Los Angeles. I have lived in Orinda for over ten years.

Orinda is well known for excellence in public schools. We have strongly supported education in our community and this, along with the dedication of excellent teachers, has allowed us to achieve well-documented success. We need to do all that we can to find creative ways to continue to bring excellent teachers into our schools and make it attractive for them to stay. This is a difficult proposition given the limitations presented by low state funding. Our school board must develop innovative ideas to preserve and improve our educational programs.

I hope to be able to contribute to meet these vital goals as a member of the Orinda Union School Board.
