Education is vital for a good job and life. It is known that scholastic success depends on parent involvement. Presently, parental access is impractical. We put big obstacles on children, this is Unfair! We are setting them up for bad consequences for them and us. "Humans were born one for the other. Educate them or suffer the consequences." --Marcus AureliousFactors to consider for a Bay Point school site: First, parental involvement is essential. It is well established that parental involvement is the best predictor of scholastic achievement. The Mt. Diablo School Board knows it because it includes members with advanced degrees in Education. I had the opportunity to remind them of this when they visited Bay Point. See Contra Costa Times "Achievement depends on Involvement", August 10, 2004. Another factor is that in huge institutions the individual student can get lost. Some schools nearby have considered splitting their huge institutions into separate schools. One alleged obstacle was that a good football team requires a large student body for support and provide team members. This is a total distortion of the educational function. To sacrifice all students in Bay Point for the possible benefit of a few highly muscular players approaches other human sacrifices recorded in history. Education is intended to lead us beyond primitive views. Another, alleged, obstacle is to require a large number of acres (45?), and the number must be met because it is "required". (Is it like saying "I am right, because I said I am right."?). I hope this is not true. Another alleged obstacle was that we must have something like $86 Million for a big school. We seem to have more than our share of obstacles. What next? Take over MAC? In a previous election a local candidate proposed looking into the option of inviting a Charter School to come to Bay Point. Perhaps we ought to look into this option, again. Candidates that support Local schools make it apparent. |
