Judy Levey Meyer has served as a Criminal Prosecutor since 1994, first in Ventura County and then in Los Angeles County. She is currently assigned to a special unit where she prosecutes cases involving adult and child sexual assault, family violence, stalking, elder abuse, and other serious felonies. During law school, she clerked for the United States Attorney's Office Organized Crime Strike Force and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
In the evenings, as a professor, Judy shares her litigation experience with students at Pacific Coast University School of Law in Long Beach. In addition to her teaching duties, she is helping establish the school's moot court program.
During her undergraduate years, Judy began her career of leadership and service as a professional whitewater raft guide, Emergency Medical Technician, and professional ski patrolman. Skilled in American Sign Language, Judy also served during law school as a sign language interpreter for the California Center for Law and the Deaf. She advanced her Spanish language skills during an immersion program in Costa Rica.
Judy Levey Meyer graduated Magna Cum Laude from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1993, where she was on the Dean's List, graded on Law Review, and received an American Jurisprudence Award. That same year, she received a certificate in Negotiation, Mediation & Arbitration from the Institute for Alternative Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine. She received a BA in Communication Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1988.
She is certified by the California and Colorado state bars. Judy is active in the legal community and is a member of several organizations, such as: California District Attorneys Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, South Bay Bar Association (Board Member), Italian American Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, League of Women Prosecutors, Long Beach Women Lawyers Association, National Council of Jewish Women, the Lawyers' Club, and Joseph A. Ball - Clarence S. Hunt Inn of Court.
Judy has served as a Volunteer Judge and Volunteer Arbitrator for the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Other volunteer work includes: serving as a Judicial Election Evaluations Committee member for the Los Angeles County Bar Association, mentoring elementary children through Project Lead, a tutor for Operation Read (photo) at the Los Angeles County Bar Association Literacy Project, a judge for mock trial competitions with the Constitutional Rights Foundation, and a collector for the Victim of Crime Holiday Giving Drive.
A San Fernando Valley native, Judy Levey Meyer now lives in Long Beach with her husband, Steve (photo). They are active in local organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach. They are avid scuba divers (photo), skiers (photo one, photo two) and sailors. They enjoy spending evenings at home with their dog, Casey (photo), a black labrador retriever.
