Your Neighborhood Improvement Program is At RiskBy Rick HeuerCandidate for Councilmember; City of Monterey; Long Term | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Over 20 years ago the residents of the City of Monterey created the Neighborhood Improvement Program to put tourist dollars to work improving our neighborhoods. Through the years, the program has built over 25 miles of curbs, gutters and sidewalks. It has begun addressing traffic calming issues in every neighborhood and major drainage problems in the Monte Vista, Old Town and New Monterey Neighborhoods. NIP funds were used to remodel the Senior Center and to equip and expand the Sports Center. Every park in the City has been remodeled using NIP funds including Dennis the Menace and Jacks Parks. Rick Heuer has been on the NIP Committee since it began and has voted to fund projects in every neighborhood. With so much work yet to be done Rick Heuer wants to ensure that NIP continues. Yet there are those who are running for City Council who do not believe in the program and have said, on the record, that it is an unnecessary extra. Send all of them your message that you want the NIP Program to continue to improve our neighborhoods by electing Rick Heuer to the City Council. |
