Dan Presser's Agenda for Monterey City Council, Short Term

Day Phone 622-0800

1. Traffic. Holman Highway and Lighthouse are a mess during am and pm drive times. There needs to be at least 2 corridors through the DLI. To protect the DLI a fence could be built as a barrier. Then a bridge could be built for the troops to cross the street. This is a simple solution which would help alleviate wasted time in nonproductive waiting in traffic and wasted money in gas.

2. Divert Money for the Public Service Center. Now is not the time to build the Public Service Center. Monterey's City Attorney has said why the $12.9 million can't be used for other purposes. I would like to encourage him to find a way the money can be used. Fewer people are now doing the jobs of many, meaning less city services. We need to keep city employees and improve city services. I would like to see some of the $12.9 million stashed away to help Monterey's Schools. Let's pay for teachers, fix up our schools and teach our kids.

3. Monterey needs low income housing. We must do what we can to develop affordable housing on the former Ft. Ord property by Ryan Ranch.

4. Water. Water belongs to the people, not private industry. Monterey, along with sister governments, must develop a desalination plant. We must forever end water transfer credits. Monterey must also improve its water infrastructure with sewers that don't leak.

5. Better Cable TV Contract. Cable rates are too high. Why should we pay for and subsidize channels we'll never watch. Examples: QVC.

6. I have helped animals. I was the former president of the American Cetacean Society, Monterey Bay. Cetaceans are whales and dolphins.

7. Grassroots Campaign. I will run a grassroots campaign. I will spend no money on this election. I believe that's the way it should be. A candidate should earn the vote, not buy it. I will take money from no one. I am running for the 2 year term because I want to get the city headed in the right direction and then bow out. I have solution that will do that.

8. Dan owns FourWinds Travel, a full service travel agency in Carmel. His first career was in advertising.

9. Professional Association. His agency is a member of the Association of Retail Travel Agents (ARTA), the 2nd largest guild of travel agents. He is on the Board of Directors of ARTA and was recently elected to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of ARTA.
