MY CREDENTIALS
1. As a Planning Commissioner I have a public record as a consensus builder; one who makes thoughtful and fair decisions and who explains why. In addition to serving the last two years as Chairman, I have served on two City traffic committees and on the liaison committee between the City and the School District.
2. My 35 year aerospace career as an engineer and executive developed people skills, analytical skills, and financial skills needed to do this job. For example, being part of the Space Station team, responsible for a $700 million annual budget, taught me the sense of urgency-the need to be decisive and get things done- that comes with spending $2M of taxpayer money a day, every day!
3. Being president of my homeowners association for fifteen years sensitized me to the quality-of-life issues that we all struggle with in our 50 year old, built-out city such as traffic, street maintenance, and property maintenance. It also taught me the equally demanding challenge of managing a $200,000 annual budget; my money and my neighbors money!
4. My community involvement includes serving on the boards of the Costa Mesa Senior Center and the Newport-Mesa Schools Foundation, membership in the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club, and the Costa Mesa Community Athletic Foundation/ Costa Mesa United. I've graduated from both the Citizens Police and
Fire Academies and I've been a reading volunteer at Wilson School the last four years. All this helps me understand what makes our City tick!
