As your Councilmember and 2004 Mayor, I can proudly say that many of the goals I set when you elected me four years ago have been accomplished. Our city is financially solid with a balanced budget, our 15% reserve met and a $3 million budget surplus. This was done with no tax hikes! Violent crime has decreased for the 3rd straight year. Columbus Tustin ballfields and Centennial Park have been renovated, and our brand-new Pionner Park dedicated and in full use. Our senior center has been expanded and a brand-new computer learning center has opened. Over $200 million will be spent during the next 7 years to improve Tustin's traffic and infrastructure. I have and will continue to support school programs such as the "Every 15 Minutes" anti drunk driving program, high school grad nights, scholarship and safety programs. The Tustin Legacy Marine Base development is underway which will feature an innovative linear park and people-friendly land use plan. Home s are being sold and a major retail center planned. Even with these accomplishments, there is still much work ahead. We must complete are new state of the art library with or without state grant money. On Tustin Legacy, build a swim and tennis complex, more lighted ballfields and new high school. It is no surprise that MONEY MAGAZINE ranked Tustin #4 as the " Best City in the Western United States to live in for 2004" With your help and support, I look forward to serving the people of Tustin for my final four years. Thank you, Tony Kawashima Mayor, City of Tustin |
