Political Philosophy for Michael J. Verrengia

I served as your School Board member from 1994 until 2002, which were times of excitng changes in Westminster School District. Under the leadership of Dr Barbara DeHart, WSD became a place that teachers wanted to work because of it's reputation. At one time there were 150 applications for just 56 teaching positions. This is the kind of place I was proud to be part of. Our CSEA employees also enjoyed the personal style leadership of Dr DeHart. Dr DeHart hired top level assistants to help her run the District, and two of them went on to achieve county and state level awards. One of them, Sheri Lowenstein, became Superintendent upon Dr. DeHart's retirement. The first ever bilingual waiver in the state of California was granted during my previous time on the Board, and the District changed to a "basics math" and "phonics" style language arts curriculum. Our Beckman Science program was the first in Orange County, and after school programs were initiated to provide a safe place for students. Helping students to develop strong character, responsibity and good values is necessary for our future community leaders, and I have shown that I have the skills to achieve those goals. I am asking for your help to bring back proven leadership to Westminster School District, and this can be done by casting your vote for me on November 2nd. I can be contacted at: verrengia4wsd@aol.com |
