Please give my candidacy very serious consideration. I have been involved in public education for many years and have a deep appreciation of and loyalty to parents, staff members and students.I have been a public school teacher for nearly 40 years, the last two years as a Reading Consultant at Menifee Elementary. I was president of the state organization, Reading Specialists of California, from 1993 to 1996. My husband, John Irey and I have been married 41 years. We have three wonderful children and five adorable grandchildren. Our daughter, Shelly Whelen teaches first grade at Menifee Elementary. Three of our grandchildren have gone through the Menifee school system and are now attending Paloma High. School board meetings need to be open and accessible to the public. I believe the district should consider moving the board meetings, which now start at 4 p.m., to a later time so working parents could attend. The best investment for your tax dollars is supporting students in classrooms. The power belongs at the school sites, shared among parents, students, staff and community. This is the road to excellence in education. |
