Critics of special districts list secret decisions and poorly attended meetings as examples of inefficient services. How does the SLV Water District deal with these areas?

At the public meetings I attended, there was no discussion by the board. There were less than 6 members of the public on hand, and they had no questions. After 10 minutes the meeting was adjourned, so that the current board could meet with their lawyer in secret session for the next hour.

With 5,800 hook-ups, the public meeting hall seats just 14. No information packet is provided to the public or the press at these meetings, as standard practice.

If democracy has many voices, these meetings have too few words.

This closed mind set has joined the current board with FLOW, the movement to municipalize Cal-Am Water. This adventure in to Socialist politics is a distraction from the real responsibilities of running their water business.

Municipalization of utilities by eminent domain was proposed by Russian socialists Michael Bakunin and Peter Kropotkin. They believed in: Socialism is Justice, Collective Labor, the Abolition of Church and State, and the Abolition of Inheritance. These ideas are way outside the mainstream of American thought, which has more respect for private property.

Our current board has used their position to threaten Cal-AM customers with an $8,000 Mell-Roos obligation. I fear the tyrrany of a mis-guided majority. There is no break for Seniors at any income level. I really don't see the necessity for this expensive idea.
