Benefits of Preserving Wright's FieldBy Caree LeshCandidate for Board Member; Alpine Community Planning Area | |

Wright's Field is a local treasure that should be preserved for long term benefits of residents and local businesses alike.Think of places where most people would really like to live. In almost every instance you can link each location to some spectacular geographical feature: near the ocean, on a lake or stream, or with beautiful mountain vistas. Protecting Wright's Field in its native state gives Alpine a geographical draw, a centerpiece that protects our future as a distinct and attractive community to live in. Having the cultural, biologic, and historic treasures of this land preserved also prevents our community from becoming like other sprawling areas of the county that are not on any list of top places to live. If done properly it can also help draw ecotourism dollars into our community. Some people want to develop this land for short term profits for a few. I propose we preserve it for long term benefits of Alpine and San Diego County residents. My vision is to see this space preserved as a passive park with educational kiosks that will allow people to appreciate the history, culture, geography and biological sensitivity of Wright's Field. San Diego County has recognized the significance of this land and has included it as part of the Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP). This is Alpine's heart and soul; a unique treasure we can never recreate. I support the Back Country Land Trust in their efforts to protect Wright's Field. |
