My family first moved to Ramona in 1969. We purchased our home in 1973 and raised our two children in this beautiful, rural Ramona valley. Ramona is still a rural community and it is still possible to preserve Ramona's Community Character Goal by using rural planning principles. I was elected to the Ramona Planning Group,1997-2000, and consistantly advocated for rural planning. For four years the RCPG held off the urban developers. Together with the community citizens the RCPG created and submitted to the county, the 2020 Ramona Community Plan in October 2000. I consider this the only valid basis for a Planned Rural Ramona Community. However, for the past four years, as a member of the RCPG West Subcommittee, we have struggled against the advances of San Diego County's 2020 Urbanization Plan for Ramona. Their plan will make Ramona the Urban Hub of San Diego County. That will not happen if I am elected. Ramona has rural heritage, agriculture and natural resources that are of State and National importance. Ramona can become the Tourist Hub of San Diego County. Ramonan's only need to insist that there are no other possibilites based on the realities of infrastructure and topography. |
