Candidate for
Board Member; Coronado Unified School District

I am announcing my candidacy for School Board in Coronado. My 25 years of teaching at Silver Strand Elementary School, Coronado Middle School, Coronado High School, and Palm Academy have given me a unique and valuable perspective on our school system. That perspective, combined with my work ethic and record of helping students reach their potentials, qualifies me for the position.

The Board must strive to create school environments that afford all students the opportunity to reach their educational potentials and goals. To this end, I believe it is the role of the Board and administration to create a positive working atmosphere - one in which teachers are treated professionally and with respect; one in which open and honest communication is not only accepted, but is encouraged; one in which the input of staff is an important consideration in decision making; and one in which "Truth, Trust, and Teamwork" is more than a motto.

In addition, the Board must create a community environment that keeps residents well informed about the schools, allows them easy access to information, responds to their questions accurately and fully, and creates an avenue for input.

Furthermore, diligent budget oversight is mandatory given the tough fiscal times ahead.

I graduated from UC Berkeley (Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa) in Engineering Physics. I hold a Masters Degree from National University (with distinction) in Educational Administration. My wife Jean and I have been married for 34 years and have lived in Coronado for the last 29 years. We have two children, Erica and Ben, both of whom attended Coronado public schools K-12.
