We can encourage developers to think small and affordable.
When it comes to meeting the housing needs for the future we face ever increasing prices. With increased costs of land, EIR reports, fees for services and mitigation, it is understandable that developers want to build larger and fancier homes. However, we can turn the upward spiral around by making wiser choices ourselves. When 'We the People' begin asking for small and efficient homes, the builders will build them. When 'We the People' tell the 'planners' to designate areas for higher density housing for young families and retired members of our community, they will put those small homes into the final plan. When 'small and efficent' homes sell faster than 'bigger and better' more builders will build them for us. When 'We the People' tell the city to look into and reccomend alternate building material and methods they will do it. There are solutions if you step outside the box and look for them. We do not have to deny someone the full use of their property. We do have to take responsibility for living within our physical and financial means. The time willl come a large home is beyond our need and ability to manage. Plan accordingly early. Truly, if it is to be, it is up to me and thee!
