Candidate for
Council Member; City of Manhattan Beach

I have the necessary time, commitment, professional and community involvement to faithfully serve the residents of Manhattan Beach as a City Council Member. My priorities will be clear:

·Keep Public Safety our Top Priority ·Protect our Unique Quality of Life ·Look out for Manhattan Beach Taxpayer Dollars ·Regionally Manage and Control LAX Growth and Commuter Traffic ·Save LA Air Force Base and associated businesses in the South Bay ·Encourage and Maintain Prosperous Local Businesses and emerging businesses such as moderately priced restaurants, financial and consumer services, and associated entertainment related businesses ·Preserve our Top Notch Public Schools and High Property Values ·Keep the legacy of a strong and proactive City Council and professional city staff ·Protect our Environment and Neighborhoods

I am running for City Council based on my many years of community service and the fact that I do not have any special interests to advocate or lingering issues with the current city council.

I am a fiscal conservative, experienced with public agency budget and financial reporting. I am concerned about the need to sustain reserves since existing reserves are being depleted to pay for the police and fire facility. More than ever, we need a watchdog City Council to look after taxpayers' dollars!

I am a firm supporter of our existing term limits.

I deplore further land acquisition or land development projects by the city. Many residents view the prices paid for Metlox and Santa Fe as way over fair market value.

I strongly support underground utilities where residents have voted to underground. I want Edison to re-bid construction costs to a wider list of construction firms to get costs more in line with the initial, estimated construction submitted to the residents.

I favor mixed-use development with retail on the first floor and condos/apartments on the second or third floors along MB Blvd, Manhattan Blvd and Sepulveda. I would strongly support community input on this issue.

If the MBUSD declares the Ladera school or Peck Road Maintenance Yard as surplus property, the city should put restrictions on the zoning to encourage low-intensity uses, possibly to develop senior senior housing. Whatever route is chosen, it must be a win-win situation, with community hearings, and not put the city at financial risk.

Before the city adopts any new fee increases or program funding, old programs must be reduced or phased out to maintain adequate contingency and reserves.

Unlike what two other candidates are proposing, I strongly oppose a utility-users tax (usually around 5 to 6% of all the various utility charges) to fund city programs or school programs.

I am pleased that Senator Bob Beverly, Mayor Linda Wilson, and Councilman Mitch Ward have endorsed my candidacy in this election. I hope I can count on your vote too!
