My Priorities

By Shawn A. McMillan

Candidate for Mayor; City of San Diego

This information is provided by the candidate
This article sets out in brief what I intend to do, and where I will focus my energy.
I will work with all of San Diego to get the monkey off our backs.

My priority for my time in office will be to guide San Diego through Chapter 9 Bankruptcy with a steady and unyielding hand. My first act will be to get the pension problem under control, and to chop back the power and influence of the union leadership. In addition, I will fight, like a pit bull on a pork-chop to roll back city employees' wages and benefits so that they are in line with the private sector.

Once our financial problems are behind us, my focus will shift to the areas that most affect our everyday lives:

Enhancing our Schools and Education

Making Government Open and Accountable

Fighting Crime and Keeping San Diego Safe

Creating Economic Growth and Development

Building Affordable Housing and Rejuvenating Our Neighborhoods

I am not a career politician; I feel and understand the frustration of San Diegan's when elected officials cozy up to lobbyists and cater to entrenched interest groups instead of serving the needs of the taxpayers. I will put an end to the `pay-to-play' system in which unions and union leaders employed by the City donate money to the very politicians who give them perpetual pay raises and increased benefits. Corruption runs rampant in San Diego's government, and we need a strong and fearless leader to stop the gravy train. I am young, energetic, enthusiastic and willing to fight for you.
