Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Culver City Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I am a parent, a husband, a teacher and a homeowner. Like you, I came to Culver City for the small schools, knowing far to well the problems that occur in larger districts.

My wife of 15 years teaches, and performs miracles with special education students, a calling that few have the patience or ability to do for even a few minutes, let alone a career. My ten year-old son is completing his last year at El Rincon, and my nine year-old daughter enjoys her classes at El Marino.

I am not a politician. In order to run for school board, I had to promise my children and wife that I would only serve for one term. It is a promise that I will keep. A continuous stream of parents with young children should run our schools, as we have the most to gain or lose if our schools are not run properly and efficiently. If an individual wants the position for more than one term, one should examine whether he or she is running for the community, or for his or her own motives, ambition or prestige.

Like most teachers, I have seen that honesty and openness is the starting point for solving any problem, and I have a low tolerance for those who try to hide, misuse, or keep the community uninformed about issues and decisions. As a teacher, I have learned that step-by-step explanation of accurate and correct information is the only process that truly leads to results.

The most important quality for a board member is vigilance. As a candidate, my watchfulness has already begun to change the way that the CCUSD administration and School Board does business. As an elected official, I can do a lot more.
