New Headquarters Station's Public Access Features

The proposed $3 million headquarters building should be more than energy efficient. It should be independent from the electrical grid and a beacon to the community when the lights go out. The Board's Meeting Chambers must also serve the community as a multi-purpose room and firefighter training facility.
Chief Wilson 9/9/03 "The Headquarters facility has served the District well but the building is at capacity, has exceeded its life span and needs to be replaced.
Staff will prepare a recommendation for the Board's future consideration. Timing will be important for the District plans to coincide with the City of Menlo Park intent to purchase and develop the adjacent property.
The District could be well served by incorporating a "Community Room" into a new fire station design. However, a cost/benefit analysis would need to be conducted and the available lot size considered before a recommendation could be made to the Board."

Director Kennedy 9/25/03. Before I spend $3 million of your tax money on a new headquarters building, as your appointed official, I would like input from the citizens regarding that "Community Room". This proposed building represents a unique opportunity to incorporate energy conservation features into the design and a bigger opportunity to create an electrical island that is independent from the electrical grid.
