Civic Center Master PlanBy Billy AllenCandidate for Council Member; City of Piedmont | |

Use the 2000 Civic Center Master Plan as a basis for developing and implementing a new Civic Center Master PlanWith the acquisition of 801 Magnolia and the renewal of the Swim Club lease in 2007, we have a unique opportunity to redesign that area so that it better fulfills its many purposes. The city now owns all the property from the Veterans building (all property facing Magnolia) through the Recreation Building. We can change that area in such a way as to enhance the esthetics, develop appropriate use of the 801 property, redesign the Swim Club area to better serve its purposes, remodel the Rec Building to make it work better and be in conformance with ADA, and redesign the Carriage House, the tennis and basketball areas to make them more efficient, while providing much needed additional parking spaces while improving the traffic flow and safety. A most important part of this process is community imput. That will help us design an area that works to the benefit of us all. We then implement the plan incrementally as the finances allow. What a great gift to give ourselves for our 100th Anniversary! What an exciting prospect! Together, we can do great things. |
