1. Do you think the proposed LNG facility should be built in Long Beach Harbor? If elected, what actions would you take to support your position?
|
Answer from Norm Ryan:
I would like to see the entire EIR come back before making a decision, though currently I have a lot of problems with the dismissive tone in Appendix F regarding the dangers involving the Tankerships that would be transporting LNG. If the facility is found to represent a danger to our community then it has no business being built at the port and I would resist it with every tool at my disposal.
2. Should Long Beach airport be expanded? If so, to what degree, and what improvements and enhancements would be essential? Under what circumstances, if any, should the number of available flight slots be increased?
|
Answer from Norm Ryan:
The airport should be improved to accomodate the current daily 41 flights allowed through Long Beach's noise ordinance. A roof over the baggage turnstile, restaurants and permanent terminal space are necessary. Under no circumstances should the slots allowed for in Long Beach's local noise ordinance be increased!
3. What should Long Beach be doing to improve air quality?
|
Answer from Norm Ryan:
Put pressure on the Ports to operate 24 hours in order to reduce the morning idling time of the trucks and emphasize rail transfer. Any and all local incentives to promote hybrid or alternative fuel vehicles. Relocate (as was promised 50 years ago) the AES plant to the Port and away from residences.
