1. What is your position on Measure U?

Answer from John Mazza:

I oppose extending term limits. I promise to be productive beginning on my first day. Unlike this city council,I don't need twelve years to become productive.

Answer from Ed Gillespie:

Although I see merits to both sides of this debate, I firmly believe that when the same people remain in power term after term, new ideas are not brought forward and government remains ideologically stagnate.

2. In overseeing development, how can the City of Malibu balance the needs of the city with environmental considerations and owners’ property rights?

Answer from John Mazza:

I will restore the planning section back to a full department. I support restoring planning back to a full department that can recruitand keep the best and most experienced stapp planners. We must never allow special favors and backroom deals to replace good and honest planning that preserves the look and feel of Malibu. As a commercial property owner, I understand the fair and dilligent application of fair codes produces fair results.

3. How can the City of Malibu work with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District to promote the mutual benefit of schools and community?

Answer from John Mazza:

Malibu must work with both the school and college districts to see that Malibu maximizes joint use agreements and thus is able to provide much needed ball fields and facilities on unused school land. Malibu needs to provide funding for the schools to make sure the schools make use of the facilities and services offered by the city. Guaranteed funding for the schools must be provided to assure that politics is taken out of the equation.
