My Candidate's StatementBy Kurt ZimmermanCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Sierra Madre | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I am running for City Council because I am committed to preserving Sierra Madre's character and quality of life. I was born and have lived in the San Gabriel Valley for over 25 years. I graduated from Sierra Madre Elementary School and learned to swim at the recreation center. Today, twelve members of my family, including my retired parents, are proud to call Sierra Madre our home. After graduating from Stanford University and UCLA Law School, I dedicated my life to public service. I was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California, which includes Sierra Madre. In that capacity, I helped protect our community by enforcing safety and environmental laws. In addition, I served as an Aide to United States Senator Alan Cranston and was an Intern on the United States Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee. Currently, I am an attorney with the federal government where I am responsible for the protection and restoration of natural resources including endangered species. As a federal prosecutor, I believe that our safety is paramount and, if elected, will fight to save our local police department and volunteer fire department. As a preservationist, I favor slow growth and will vigorously oppose the Downtown Specific Plan and hillside development. As a father, I want my children and all of Sierra Madre's children to grow up with sound minds and healthy bodies. Consequently, I will work to keep our library and youth activity center open. As the son of retired parents living in Sierra Madre, I am sensitive to the needs of our Seniors and will address their issues. Finally, as a concerned taxpayer, I will ensure fiscal accountability to prevent an increase in property taxes. |
