Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I have a lifelong commitment to education. During the time that I served as a radar repair technician in the United States Navy, I dedicated myself to continuing my education by attending West Hills Junior College and Fresno State University in my off duty hours.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, I worked part time as a field service engineer and worked part time for the United States Postal Service while attending California State Hayward University. Shortly after obtaining my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Marketing, I was hired by the postal service as a full time employee. I enjoyed serving the public as a bulk mail clerk and window clerk sales associate. In addition, I worked as a mail handler, distribution clerk, and was elected to serve as Chief Steward and President of the American Postal Workers Union local affiliates in San Ramon and Hayward.

I continued my education, by attending Devry University Keller Graduate School of Management at night, whereby I obtained a Masters Degree in Telecommunications. After an early retirement from the postal service, I attended Chapman University and received my California Teaching Credentials in Industrial Technology Education. Subsequent to receiving my teaching credentials, I have worked as a Math Teacher, a Chess Teacher in after school programs, and a Math Tutor to students living in Livermore.

I feel, there is a drastic need for the Livermore Valley School District to support after school programs that help students who are doing poorly in math, and also prepare middle school and high school students to successful pass the math section of the California High School Exit Exam.

I believe, my technical training and teaching experience can help develop programs for students who are at risk of failing math, as well as implement curriculum for the Livermore Valley School District's Technology Plan pursuant to the Education Code 51871.5; so that computers, multimedia and technology such as digital white boards, and wireless local area networks can be used by teachers in classrooms to access lessons based on curriculum standards, and used by students to enhance their learning experience.

Research indicates student involvement in the arts improves school attendance, behavior and performance. If elected Governing School Board Member, I will also support Livermore Valley Center for the Performing Arts efforts to bring culture and appreciation of the Arts to Livermore Unified School District, support Livermore Valley Charter School efforts to grow and expand, and work with other board members to improve Livermore Unified School District's rating as one of the better school districts in California .
