Closing SchoolsBy Gwen EstesCandidate for Governing Board Member; New Haven Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Closing schools does not raise student achievement.I voted against school closures because there was no justification for closing them. Most particularly closing a middle school was not in the best educational interests of our children. As a classroom teacher, I know the importance of a small learning environment. Schools that have higher performing students are not stuffed to the gills with 1400+ students. The answer to improved student achievement is found in the quantity and quality of resources for success which we provide to our children. |
