Richmond is the most dangerous city in the state of California.Crime in Richmond seems a primarily Black on Black problem. As of the writing of this opinion, there have been 36 homicides and 18 with solid leads, in the process of being solved. To date, other than the Tent Cities there has not been an effective intervention program implemented that has reduced crime, made residents feel safe on the streets, in their homes, or in the schools. Tent Cities' was formed by Richmond Residents, and myself as a means of stopping the senseless shootings. Since it's inception there have only been three shootings. My opinion is that the city needs to implement a concrete program that will be an extension of Tent Cities' actions. Any planning on the part of the city government must involve those residents who were considered the leadership of Tent Cities. Regarding the make up of the City Council, my opinion is that it should inbody persons who have the ability to communicate, motivate, and convience residents of troubled areas that they are needed to make a change within their neighborhoods. I have proven that I am the person who can follow through on a delicate function of that nature based upon what I have already demonstrated. My plateform references actions I would take relative to this issue. |
