As Salinas City Councilman, I will serve Salinas City and its people. I will invite representatives and individuals from business, health and education to advise me and encourage them to participate in the public policy process.

Salinas City is my home town. I was raised, educated and spent my young years as a farm-worker throughout Salinas Valley produce fields prior to entering military service and continuing my formal education.

For 30 years, I served my community in different ways. I worked with school officials, business and community leaders by providing 7,000 students and their parents early intervention services. These services were paid by YOU, the tax payer. Some 70% of the Salinas City neighborhoods young people enrolled in college/university because they were academically prepared and were willing to work smart to get a college education.

During these same years, I worked with local business people and public officials to provide transportation, a library learning environment, pre-college experience and jobs for youth. WE were able to engage parents in the process of preparing youngsters to enroll in a workforce training program, i.e., professional, para-professional or vocational training.

My leadership, networking and public service experience extends beyond the halls of city government, school-sites, and community centers. My commitment reaches into the homes of Salinas City residents as an advocate for working families, laborers, elders, and local business.
