It Costs Too Much to Use Our AirportBy Dan PresserCandidate for Director; Monterey Peninsula Airport District | |

Ideas to Bring High Air Fares Down1. Montery's Air Fares should be "Common Rated" with those of San Francisco and San Jose. If a passenger buys an airline ticket to New York, that person pays the same price no matter which of the 3 airports they use. JFK, LGA, and EWR are the same price. That's "Common Rating." Monterey should be "Common Rated" with SJC and SFO. 2. Competitive non legacy airlines should be actively pursued. An immediate out and back trip to Los Angeles from Monterey costs double what Southwest Airlines charges from San Jose. If we could coax a non legacy airline such as Southwest to come to Monterey prices would tumble. |
