Why I'm running for my local water distict board.
I'm interested in the water district board because I believe in conserving natural resources and working toward sustainability in our environment. We have to maintain a balance that will insure our children have the same benefits that we now enjoy. Our water district is now buying surface water from the City of Sacramento at twice the cost of pumping groundwater because we are depleting the aquifer. The infrastructure of pipes, pumps and wells is aging and will need to be replaced. There is a backlog of deferred maintenance that will cost more than our current rates cover. My platform is two fold; conservation and measured rate increases to reach equilibrium. By conserving water we reduce costs of buying water, treating and pumping it and we wouldn't have to increase system capacity with all the infrastructure costs involved. Measured rate increases may cover purchasing surface water and maintenance. Our current rates don't cover the costs of a sustainable water delivery system.

I worked for UC Davis Facilities for 6 years purchasing for plumbing and wastewater so I have a working knowledge of what's involved in water system maintenance. I received an MBA from UCD in Operations and Production Management in 1994.
