1. What experience related to city government would you bring to the City Council?
- 6 Years of Public Commission experience Community Advisory Commission Santa Clara County Transportation Commission Mobile Home Rent Review Board (Chair) Planning Commission
- Former Councilmember, City of Milpitas
- Former Mayor, 3 Consecutive terms, City of Milpitas, CA
2. What concerns are of particular importance to the city and how would you address them?
The Primary issue to the City of Milpitas and my Top Priority is Economic Development. A strong financial base is essential to providing the important and critical City services that residents need. Public Safety is one such need. Our citizens and businesses must feel safe and secure in their environments. I plan to work diligently to fill the large vacancy in commercial real estate that has grown in the last 4 years. Bringing new businesses to Milpitas and helping existing business expand will be the economic stimulus that re-energizes the City and bring it back to profitability.3. How would you balance the needs of the City as a whole with groups' interests?
In both my private and public life, I've always strived to build consensus among different groups. What I have found to be particularly effective, is getting the City together with a certain group early in the process to find common ground. Having "buy-in" in the initial meetings may take longer, but it goes a long way to forging agreeable public policy. Ultimately, the needs of the City should generally prevail over a group with a special interest. However, effective communication techniques should always be employed to establish good will and civility.
