Measure N:By Richard "Dick" ClarkCandidate for Director; Scotts Valley Fire Protection District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
In this election the voters get a chance to decide if they will support the construction of a new fire station in our district. The measure they will vote on, Measure N, looks a lot like Measure F that appeared on the June primary ballot and which lost by a very small number of votes. The only significant difference is that the new bond request is substantially smaller than the one in June. This was done to reduce the annual cost to taxpayers. Measure N only provides funds for the operational portion of the facility, the construction of which provides the necessary reduction in response times. As a member of the board that voted to close the Sims Road station in order to provide service to the north end of our district, I have always felt we needed to restore some of that protection to the south end. Finding a workable site at La Madrona and Mt. Hermon was the first step; putting a station there completes the process. And as a resident of the south end, along with my grandchildren, I share the concern there that current response times into our area are just too long. I voted to put Measure F on the June ballot, and I support the current measure. Where I differed from others on the board was in the timing of our second request of the voters. The sense of the board was to proceed at the November election and so the bond measure was filed. I have campaigned for the measure, and I will personally vote in favor of Measure N and urge others to do the same. |
