Richard Dean, 49, is a lifelong Lodi resident who attended local schools and graduated from Lodi High School in 1974. His involvement in Law Enforcement began as a Lodi Police Explorer Scout at the age of 16. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Human Resources from the University of San Francisco and earned his Masters Degree in Management from Cal Poly, Pomona. Richard also holds Advanced, Supervisory, and Management Certificates from the California Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training. At the age of 20, Richard became a Lodi Police Officer. As an Officer, he served in a variety of capacities including, Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, Juvenile Officer and Detective. In 1983, he was promoted to Sergeant where he ran the Field Training Program, was a Field Supervisor and worked in the County's Narcotics Task Force. He was also in charge of the Narcotics, Vice, and Gang Unit. Richard was promoted to Lieutenant in 1993 where he served as a Watch Commander, managed the Emergency 911 Communications Center and Jail. He then went on to become the Administrative Lieutenant in Charge of Personnel and Training. In 1998, Richard was elected as a Trustee on the Lodi Unified School District Board of Education and is now serving his second term. He is currently serving his third term as President of the Board. Richard is an elected member of the California School Boards Association's (CSBA) Delegate Assembly, and currently serves as a CSBA Governmental Relations Chair. He is also an Advisor to the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission and chairs the Lodi Grape Bowl Ad Hoc Committee. As a management consultant, Richard trains and advises law enforcement managers throughout the United States on performance management, disciplinary due process, and accountability in the workplace. Richard and his wife, Patti, have been married for 28 years. They have three children: Erik, 25, Merrin, 14 and Maranda, 12. The Dean family has been active members of Bethel Open Bible Church for 25 years. |
