Questions & Answers

1. What programs and actions will you support to protect communities from the negative consequences of the state’s increasing dependence on gambling revenue?

I would request data to determine the exact extent to which this problem is affecting our community then recommend an appropriate solution.

2. Legislative district boundary lines are drawn by the legislators themselves and are tied directly to the advantages of party politics. Would you support the establishment of an independent commission as a more open and ethical way to create districts?

Why this has been allowed to exist is the question. It should be criminalized. I would absolutely support an independent way to create districts. The incumbent may agree but in the 16 years in office he has been unsuccessful in implementing this change.

3. Amid the recent reports that more and more young people are leaving upstate cities for better opportunities, what would you propose to reverse this trend?

There is no substitute for cutting property taxes, cutting state taxes, reducing excessive regulations and putting a stop to uncontrolled spending. We will not see a reverse of this trend until these changes occur. Again, the incumbent may agree but in the 16 years in office he has been unsuccessful in implementing these changes.

4. Legislative districts have been determined on a partisan basis. Would you support establishing an independent commission as a more open and ethical way to create the districts? Please explain.

Like I said before, why this has been allowed to exist is the question. It should be criminalized. I would absolutely support an independent way to create districts. The incumbent may agree but in the 16 years in office he has been unsuccessful in implementing this change.

5. Do you support joint committees to reconcile differences between bills on the same issue passed by both houses of the legislature?

Lack of cooperation because of party politics is one of the primary causes of our State's failure. In fact divide and conquer is the game in Albany. I will not work for or take orders from party bosses. I will work first and foremost for my constituents. I am not worried about being ostracized by the establishment and having my pay cut. I have my own successful businesses.

I will work with any legislator that is willing to do the right thing for our State and more importantly, our community.

When one studies the voting record of the incumbent it reveals he voted 99.5% of the time last year and 99% of the time this year the exact same way as his Party Boss Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. This is why Upstate fails to turn around. The Boss has a different agenda then we do Upstate.

6. New York State Legislators did not address the pending CFE (Campaign for Fiscal Equity) suit during the 2006 session. What would you propose to expedite the resolution of the CFE case?

If the courts can't force Assembly Speaker Silver to correct the problem who can. We must eliminate his unbridled power by reducing the Super Majority in the Assembly. This can only be done by sending non-Democrats to the Assembly. Visit my website http://www.samtrapani.com for the full story.
