Personal IntroductionBy Layne T. BaroldiCandidate for Council Member; City of La Habra Heights | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I am committed to being a voice of the people on the council. I ask for your vote on March 6th so that I can help protect the unique opportunities that our special community provides not only for us but for future generations.Having the good fortune to grow up in La Habra Heights, I realize how much we all benefit from the rural lifestyle that our city provides. I am grateful that I was able to return to our city to build a home, raise a family and take care of my parents who moved here in 1969. I appreciate why they, as many of us, want to live out the rest of their lives in our extraordinary community. Our most pressing challenge and top priority is how do we address our fire safety needs to benefit our entire community. I understand the importance of essential safety services. I want to ensure that our firefighters' facilities are built in a fiscally responsible manner that does not include The Park as an option. Safety for all should always be the most important site selection criteria. Selection of the appropriate fire station site should strongly emphasize innovative use of the existing site. The long awaited development of a new or remodeled fire station should not be linked to the concurrent development of a new City Hall. For more than two years I have served on our Planning Commission. Much of my time on the Planning Commission has been focused on interpreting our General Plan' s goals and policies as the basis for the development of our new Municipal Code. The Municipal Code establishes the rules for residential development and animal husbandry in our community. In order to address future development in a manner that protects both property rights and our rural lifestyle it will be essential for a City Council member to have a thorough knowledge of both the city's General Plan and its interpretation that took place during the dozens of meetings that were held to develop the new Municipal Code. Because of my personal experience with building in the city, and service on the Planning Commission, I am well aware of the fine points of the General Plan and Municipal Code and can help ensure the new requirements are implemented in the best interest of the entire community. I look forward to meeting with you as I walk throughout La Habra Heights and listen to your thoughts. I believe that a council person must talk to residents throughout the city connect with the will of the community. I am committed to being a voice of the people on the council. I ask for your support on March 6th so that I can help protect the unique opportunities that our special community provides not only for us but for future generations. Sincerely, Layne |
