Political Philosophy for Hector Fermin Gurule
Candidate for |

|
"My name is Hector Fermin Gurule; I am not a career politician. I am a Businessman in the Computer Technology field who has run a successful business for the past 11+ years. I was sought out by individuals who are concerned for the Community College Educational System in the greater Los Angeles Area. I was asked to campaign for this election by a former Vocational Teacher at LA Trade Tech (Pat Owens), whose concern has been and will continue to be for the education of his students and for anyone else who has the desire for educational empowerment. Currently the Board of Trustees (7 seats) has raised 1.2 billon dollars in the past six years with bonds A & AA. Apparently another measure may be put on an upcoming ballot will be for bond AAA which will raise an additional 670 Million dollars by way of increased property taxes. With all these funds there is still a chance that key vocational courses may be cut in the fields of carpentry, welding, and nursing to name a few. I know that to keep a growing economy in California, employment a key driving factor. Just not any job will do, we need practical courses at our community colleges in which students may learn the skills needed to prove to be productive members of society and create stability for a family environment. These days, families cannot be expected to create long-term stability, set on a foundation of working minimum wage cashiers. A workforce of skilled laborers like nurses, welders, electricians, etc. are better empowered to provide a greater benefit for their family unit. One of the greatest problems I see is the current board of Trustees lack of focus on what is important, getting students prepared for life. My website http://www.March2007.info relates specific problem areas, but simpley put... I feel that as a successful businessman that I have the skills to make better decisions and do a better job than current members of LACCD Board." |
