Dear 5th Ward Voters: The citizens of the 5th Ward deserve a commissioner who is accessible, concerned, informed, diligent and dedicated to improving the quality of life for every resident of Haverford Township. I will be that kind of commissioner. My history of community service illustrates the level of commitment I have to the township and its residents. In 25 years here, I have been involved in a variety of civic activities. I helped to spearhead the revitalization of Grasslyn Park and to refurbish the American Legion Post there. In addition, I was a seven year member and past president of the Oakmont South Ardmore Civic Association (1990-1997). Currently, I am a member of The Coopertown Service Corp and member and street representative for the Coopertown Civic Association. I have served as a Republican committeewoman for 17 years. Professionally, I was employed for 20 years in the healthcare industry, serving as a liaison between healthcare providers and children with special needs. This experience helped to hone my communication skills, which I will bring to the table as a commissioner with the ability to not just talk, but to listen. It also provided me with the ability to slice through bureaucracy and red tape and see through the clutter to evaluate and solve the real problems ... skills that will be invaluable as your commissioner. My husband, Fred, and I have raised our family here and, in fact, the younger of our two sons is currently a junior at Haverford High School. I understand the concerns of families whose goal it is to raise their children in a safe and peaceful community and will make it a priority to address the issues that threaten that goal. Issues including the management of traffic congestion, crime in our community and the preservation and maintenance of our parks and open space will be a focus. In addition, I understand that the need for fiscal responsibility at a local level is a priority of all our residents. This is especially true of our seniors. I will be a wise guardian of your tax dollars and help to insure that you are able to remain in the community that you have made your home for so long, without sacrificing while the quality of service that Haverford Township has always provided its residents. I believe I share your goals and visions for the 5th Ward and, if you elect me as your commissioner, I promise to work tirelessly to achieve them. I welcome your questions and input and look forward to meeting and hearing from many of you between now and Election Day. Thank you for your support. |
