The war in IraqBy Daniel Abraham BrezenoffCandidate for United States Representative; District 37 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
The war in Iraq is but a symptom of a failed foreign policy that puts profit over people and power over what is right. We need not only to leave Iraq, but to create international relationships based on cooperation rather than militarism. The War in Iraq It is time to bring our military actions in Iraq to an end. I am willing to support HR 1234 or HR 508. Both bills present a workable, ethical solution to the crisis in Iraq. I am committed to a rapid solution that recognizes: Veterans must receive the care they need and deserve An international force must help restore stability in Iraq Negotiations must include all relevant parties and consider all humane solutions The United States must assist in reparations Some portions of war funds must be diverted to domestic concerns Further investigation into intelligence deceptions should continue, even beyond 2008 if necessary. Both of the major political parties supported and funded this war. In the 2006 Congressional elections, Iraq was the most important issue. Yet the new majority party in Congress has been unable to bring home the troops, and in fact, the war has escalated. Martin Luther King said: "War is obsolete". He called war "evil" and wrote that mankind must find a way to resolve "all human problems without resorting to violence". I agree with him. I support a total international ban on landmines, cluster bombs, and new nuclear weapons. |
