Fernando Pedroza was elected to the Lynwood City Council on November 6, 2001, and was appointed by his colleagues to first serve as Mayor Pro-Tem in November 2001, and then as Mayor in November 2002- December 2003, Councilmember 2004-2005. He was RE-ELECTED in November of 2005.

Councilman Pedroza has been an avid leader, fully committed to serving the citizenry of Lynwood. At the core of his career in public service lies community service and he has made it a priority to involve Lynwood's diverse citizenry in the participatory process relative to the implementation of new projects and programs. His strong determination to finalize city projects, has resulted in tremendous accomplishments for the year 2003. He has been actively involved in helping to shape the key areas of city government--education, public safety, beautification, redevelopment and community involvement, and thereby ensure that the concerns of Lynwood citizens are addressed.

Councilman Pedroza's first endeavor upon election to the Lynwood City Council was to address the City's water billing problems that were an on-going concern of residents. He spearheaded a fact-finding committee comprised of city staff to conduct investigative research and develop immediate solutions thereby successfully reducing the high volume of concerns. Councilman Pedroza has initiated new projects including the Lynwood Business Watch Program, the Lynwood Anti-Cruising Enforcement Task Force, the Vines Beautiful Project to combat graffiti and the establishment of the Lynwood Senior Center Advisory Committee for the development of the City's first $3 Million dollar Senior Center to be complete Nov. 2005.

During his term as Mayor, the City of Lynwood received numerous awards, including the 2003 City Cultural Diversity Award presented by the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials of the National League of Cities; the 2003 City Livability Award of Merit presented by the United States Conference of Mayors; and the 2003 Lead-safe....for Kids' Award of Distinction also presented by the United States Conference of Mayors.

Councilman Pedroza, 40, has been a resident of Lynwood for 25 years. He spent his childhood years in South Los Angeles and he initiated his teenage years when his family moved to Lynwood in 1979. He attended and graduated from Lynwood High School in 1984. He is a graduate of Webster Career College of Long Beach.

Councilman Pedroza and wife Diana have two daughters, Diana Victoria and Laura Daniela. His hobbies are playing music, painting and he loves to golf.
