Hello fellow Northern Humboldt residents, I am a life long resident of Humboldt County. I grew up in Arcata, attended Sunset Elementary, Stewart Elementary, and graduated from Arcata High School in 1974. I attended College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State University before obtaining my position at Peninsula Union School District. I have lived in Samoa for the last 27 years. My husband, Richard, and I raised our two sons locally and they also attended Arcata High School. I have always been actively involved in the community, serving on the local school board for 7 years and helping coach sports teams for both boys and girls at the school. As the Co-Founder of the Samoa Athletic Club, I have helped provide recreational sports activities for both adults and youth in the community of Humboldt County. I am also on the Board of Directors for the Humboldt Domestic Violence Services. In my professional career I am a member of the California Association of School Business Officials. During my years at Peninsula School I have filled many diverse roles with increasing responsibility. In a small school you get to know the ins and outs of every position. I have driven school bus and filled in if the cook or custodian is off for the day. During the beginning years of declining enrollment there was a financial decision made to not hire a superintendent. Instead, the Governing Board, along with the staff of the school, placed their confidence in a three member Administrative Leadership Team. I was very pleased and proud to have been selected to be a part of that team serving as the Business Manager. Last year I was offered an additional opportunity to serve the Green Point School District in business services also, a position I still fill along with my responsibilities to my own district. Responsibility, flexibility, and availability, are key ingredients to the life of a school district employee. These qualities, along with my experience in school finance, are the reasons I feel I would make an excellent representative on the Northern Humboldt Union High School District Governing Board. I believe in the public education system, even with its flaws. I believe it takes concerned citizens to listen to the parents, students, staff, and community needs. Then I believe it takes the whole group, working together, being respectful of all ideas, to bring about positive and innovative change for the future. I want to serve as your representative on this dynamic team. Thank you for your consideration on November 6th, Robin Marks |
