My Vision for Humboldt Bay Harbor Recreation and Conservation District 2My name is Steven Morris and I am running for Humboldt Bay Harbor Recreation and Conservation District 2 Commissioner. As candidate for HBHR&CD I would like to explain that the Harbor District works in three different areas which are reflected in its three operating divisions: Harbor, Recreation and Conservation. The group articulated a short series of direction statements and organized them under these three headings. Harbor * Identify the need for permit process streamlining of historic uses of the bay and its margins with the overall goal of maintaining historic uses that are compatible with the findings of the Humboldt Bay Management Plan and Harbor Revitalization Plan. Identify and implement those elements of the Harbor Revitalization Plan which would be needed to build the foundation for a real increase in the cargo handling capacity of the bay. Recreation * Facilitate a substantial increase in recreational facilities available throughout the District. Conservation * Provide leadership in enhancing and protecting the bay environment Specific focus: commercial/industrial uses, recreation, environmental/ regulatory issues and governmental issues. Within the last year I have been closely following (via newspaper articles and the harbor website), and in the last 4 months currently interacting with the HBHRCD Strategic Planning Group and attending most Commission meetings. In my attendance of these meetings I have discovered that Humboldt Bay means many things to many people from shipping ports, and oyster farms, to a place to boat or kayak. The fact that so many people use the bay for various reasons can make managing it for the greater good very complex. Nevertheless, I believe that I am the candidate that can bring this together for the benefit of all. For example: I personally believe in a strong economy and creating jobs in all areas of our community. I am candidate who is the "working man". I know all to well what it means to try to make a strong consistent and sustainable economy that creates livable wages. I personally believe that the below plan is a common sense approach to the harbor and its natural resources. My Vision for HBHR&CD is: "To serve all the people of Humboldt County by promoting harbor use, enhancing recreational opportunities, and protecting bay and tidal environments, while developing a consistent and viable economic base for our community". My Mission for HBHR&CD is: "To bring about a managed approached to development of the bay that is environmentally sound. I believe in a careful balance that promotes commerce, fisheries, navigation, recreation and conservation in all areas for the benefit of everyone".
My Objectives for HBHR&CD are: (in random order) My hope is that you the voter will vote for me and endorse my vision, mission and objectives for the future of Humboldt Bay Harbor. I note here as well, that I receive no campaign money from any group or individual. I receive no money from any lobbyist. My campaign receives no money from any outside or inside sources. I have not done any fund rising for this volunteer position. This does not mean that I do not want your support; it means I do not want any money for support. And yes, this is by my own choice, because I personally believe this is what it takes to remain uninfluenced and unbiased in all decisions regarding Humboldt Bay Harbor and if you vote for me; you will truly get a commissioner who will work for you the voter. Thank you for the opportunity to serve. Steven Morris http://www.a2zpc4ucomputers.com 707-832-7011 |
